200: Season 3 Finale – A Tribute to Sydney Crain

Episode 200: Today we’re going to do something a little different—to celebrate reaching 200 episodes, we’re paying tribute to one of the people who has made all of this possible, our producer, Sydney Crain. Ron sat down with Sydney just before our live show last week, during the middle of a huge rainstorm, to ask about her favorite stories and memories from her time with the show.

In this episode, you’ll hear clips of stories from Janae Burris, Ellen K. Graham, and Steven Burge, plus a full story told by Sydney at our “Framed” show in June 2019.

Sydney also sang our outro music for this episode—it’s a clip from our special “Cover Story” show at the Underground Music Showcase earlier this summer, with Jobless on backup.

The Narrators podcast is going to take a break for the rest of 2019, so this is a great time to go digging in our archives—and as of right now, we can now say there are literally hundreds of episodes available, so go ahead, binge to your heart’s content!

  • 110: Janae Burris, “Fallen Promises”

    110: Janae Burris, “Fallen Promises”

We made it—the dumpster fire that was 2016 is done—and the flood of new year’s resolutions seems to be running faster and deeper than usual this year. Even more so, it seems like folks are breaking free and dumping old baggage that held them back last year. That’s what today’s story is all about—the complexities embedded in all the commitments we make to ourselves and to others—and how sometimes, letting them all fall apart is the most compassionate thing to do.

This story comes from one of our favorite storytellers, Janae Burris. Janae is a comedian, actor, and a member of the comedy group the Pussy Bros. This story was recorded live on 20 January, 2016 at Buntport Theater in Denver, Colorado. The theme of the evening was “Promise.”

Here’s to new years and new promises. Enjoy.

We’ve announced the themes for 2017, so be sure to check them out. The first theme of the new year will be “Dropping the Ball” on 10 January in San Diego and 18 January in Denver. See you there!

Oh, he likes jigsaw puzzles, too, but who doesn’t?

He continues to write plays and stories in a rigorous fashion, and travels around the globe to numerous storytelling festivals, residencies, and has been invited to perform the acclaimed National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN for several years.
