A few months ago, The Narrators took part in a great music series put on by Audiovore and Mountain to Sound called Fortunate Listener.  They captured some great footage of our storytellers relating “Tales From the Road.”  Here’s The Narrators co-host Robert Rutherford sharing a story about an awkward shower encounter while on tour.  Enjoy!

Tomorrow Night!! The Narrators on “The Open Road”

    8866876803_02dc2d225aKittens and Pups,

Our July show is extremely nigh, and we’ve crafted a great lineup of storytellers to tickle your storybones with tales about “The Open Road”.  Per usual, we’ll kick things off at 8pm at The Deer pile (above City O’ City).    Here’s the scoop:

The Nix Bros. – These guys are doing amazing work and have helped to bring well-deserved attention to Denver film-making.  Their work with The Grawlix is a good place to sink your teeth if you ain’t tasted ’em yet.

Jordan Doll – Jordan is one of Denver’s finest comedians, and we are thrilled to have him back on the show.

Theresa Mercado – It’d be difficult to cram all of Theresa’s activities into a short quip, so we’ll just tell you to watch her on Late Night Denver and visit her curated film series Cruel Summer at Crash 45.

Ed Ward – Ed has been a friend of the show since we started, has been a guest several times, and hosts our sister storytelling show Stories Stories Bring YOUR Stories.

Tom Murphy – Anyone who has ever read more than ten words about Denver music knows this man’s work.  He is as prolific as he is insightful about Denver music history.

Tim Rynders – Tim plays bass for one of Denver’s best and hardest working bands, The Knew.  If you haven’t seen them live, your life is empty and devoid of joy.  Please fix that.

Cassandra Schoon – Cassie is a damn fine writer, and delighted our October audience with a story about a disgusting car ride.  We’re excited to hear what she has crafted for her return.

Allison Downey – Allison is visiting our fair state from the northern climes of Michigan, where she hosts a storytelling program on NPR.

Your hosts Robert Rutherford and Andrew Orvedahl will be on hand to provide fresh B.O. and high fives for summah.

    See you wild things there.

  • Tonight!! The Narrators on “Authority”

The Narrators’ March show is tackling the theme of Authority, and we’ve lined up storytellers from Denver and beyond to relate their tales of subversion, domination, expertise, and powerful uniforms. Here’s the batting lineup:

Erin Rollman – Member of Denver’s finest troupe of drama provocateurs at Buntport Theater

Jim Norris – Owner of Three Kings Tavern and Mutiny Information Cafe

Andie Lyons – Manager of Community Programs at Colorado Youth Matter, opera singer

Ed Ward – Host of Stories, Stories, Bring Your Stories at the Mercury Cafe.

Ru Johnson – Writer (just look her up, she has stuff all over – including The Denver Post and Westword), arts advocate, nail polish enthusiast.

Keith Garcia – Programming Manager at SIE Film Center

Amber Tozer – Los Angeles based comedian

Kevin O’Brien – comedian and co-host of These Things Matter podcast

Your faithful hosts Andrew Orvedahl and Robert Rutherford will also be on deck for hand-wringing, awkward conversations, mic-testing, and chair-moving. 8PM at our beloved Deer Pile in the heart of Denver Colorado. See you there, sweetums.

HOST JOWLSWell, it took us awhile, but Andrew and I are pleased as princesses to bring you our re-vamped podcast and a fancy new website where it will be hosted.  We’ve got some as-of-yet-unheard podcasts for your perusal and listening pleasure, plus all of the archived episodes from Andrew’s time in the solo podcasting mines.  Of particular interest are the five episodes from October, November, and December that feature some really amazing storytelling from our new home at The Deer Pile.

Now that we’ve got your eyeballs for a minute or two, a couple of notes about the new podcast:

    • We plan on putting out two podcasts a month.
    • Each podcast will feature two stories taken from the live show.
    • Each podcast will be between 10 and 25 minutes long, because there is no such thing as a podcast that is too short, unless that podcast belongs to Too Short.  That would be a Too Short podcast.
    • You can subscribe to this blog via RSS feed and listen to the podcasts here, and soon you will be able to find them on iTunes or through the Stitcher app.
    • If you like the stories you hear, please support our storytellers by checking out their work at the links we’ll provide ya.

We have soooo much more to come.

AND!  Don’t forget to see The Narrators live and in the flesh, inside the gently gurgling creative belly that is The Deer Pile, above City O’ City in Denver, Colorado, on the third Thursday of every month. Our next show is January 17th (like, this Thursday, Scooby.  ZOINKS!), and our theme for the night is “Adults Only.” (Note from the future: As of April 2014, The Narrators now happens every third Wednesday at Buntport Theater.)

    Thanks for listening!

    -Robert
