  • This Thursday! The Narrators on “The Fall”

Well, the leaves are off of the trees and the all of the plants have gone into senescence, but The Narrators are as vibrant and full of life as ever (I feel like I just wrote a Garrison Keillor intro to Tales from Lake Wobegon).  But I digress.  Our November show is full of great storytellers who will give us their spins on “The Fall.”  Here’s the lineup:

    Jessica Thompson – writer
Greg Salvesen – economics scholar, marathon runner
    Evan Duggan – comedian
Brandi Shigley – dreamer, doer, musician, fashionista
    Mark Sonnenblick – musican, actor
Brian Collona – member of Buntport Theater
    Rachael Pollard – musician
    Haley Driscoll -comedian, veteran improviser

Of course, your hosts Robert Rutherford and Andrew Orvedahl will be on hand to provide pumpkin spice body odor and swap green bean casserole recipes.

8pm at the Deer Pile (above City O’ City).  See you there!

  • Thursday Night! The Narrators on “Two Sides to Every Story”

Our October show is going to consist of a little experiment.  We thought it might be fun to explore the nature of truth in true storytelling by looking at an age old adage, that there are two sides to every story.  We have invited pairs of storytellers to share their versions of a shared experience or story.  We’re hoping to dig into what makes a story a story, what we can learn by looking in between the gaps, etc.  It should be a hoot.  8pmat the usual haunt, Deer Pile above City O’ City in beautiful Denver, CO.

    Here’s our lineup:

    Mara Wiles and Nancy Wiles

    Jordan Doll and Christie Buchele

    Josiah Hesse and Taylor Gonda

    Mary Robertson and Robert Rutherford

26: The Low Point, Live at High Plains Comedy Festival

Man, oh man. We are STILL reeling from the High Plains Comedy Festival.  The inaugural ride of Denver’s largest comedy festival was a huge success, and The Narrators had the good fortune of kicking off the fest with a special episode at the Hi-Dive, featuring comedians who had come to town to carpet bomb South Broadway with chucklegas.

Although this episode is a little longer than our regular episodes, we guarantee that it’s worth the listen. Featured storytellers include: The Narrators co-host Robert Rutherford, David Gborie, Matt Braunger, and Cameron Esposito.

The intro and outro music was produced and graciously provided by Sans Seruf, and you can find more slick beats for your earholes over at his bandcamp page.

Our next show is coming up on September 19th and the theme will be “DIIIIICKS” We’ll be posting details about our great lineup as the date looms a little closer.

ALSO!!! The Narrators are working with Off-Center at the Jones Theater on a show the will go into full production in 2014.  Pretty big fucking deal, eh? Check their facebook event page for more details.  POW!

    Thanks for listening!

  • Thursday Night! The Narrators on “HEAT”

We Denverites have been pretty lucky here as summer enters its final, sweaty stretch.  The afternoons have been filled with thunderstorms and rain, taking the edge off of the usual slaking heat that marks August in our fair town.  But let;s talk about heat anyway.  Heat is our theme this month, and we’ve lined up a sizzling group of storytellers to fry up some tasty tales.  Here are the hot dogs:

Ru Johnson is a writer and a nail polish enthusiast.  She has lived in Denver for seven years and hails from the East Coast, specifically New York City.  She told a fantastic story about sex and a serious egg aversion at our “Adults Only” show and we are excited to have her back.

Will Dewey‘s novel The Homeland of Pure Joy is available for you to get yer grubby mitts on, and you can put your mitts on Will himself at this month’s show (for a nominal fee, I assume).

Rob Bowman is the author of the novel Flea Circus and many other works that have in common the fact that very few people have read them. He has a young son who favors cardigans and jabbering meaninglessly, much like his father.

Cynthia Ord is a wordsmith and website-meister for a luxury adventure tour company. On the side she blogs about planet-friendly travel for www.thetravelword.com and her own site www.cynthiaord.com.  This is her first Narrators appearance, but she has offered up some past themes for shows.

Heather Snow is a comedian, a writer, and a Narrators favorite.  We’re excited to have her back!

Dan Landes owns City O’ City and Watercourse Foods, and our beloved Deer Pile, where we get to host The Narrators.  He is also the author of Joonie and the Great Harbinger Stampede.

Johanna Walker is a public speaking coach, helping people transform their fear of public speaking into dynamic power and authentic presence. She also teaches a solo performance making class called Fearless Solos, and co-hosts Boulder’s bi-monthly story slam, Truth Be Told. (next one on Sunday August 18!) Find out more at www.johannawalker.com and www.storyslamboulder.com

Rick Griffith is a god among typographers. His design studio MATTER is built around an edict of using their talents for the uncommon, human good.  He also serves as a Denver County Commissioner for Public Art and Culture.

…and your faithful co-hosts Andrew Orvedahl and Robert Rutherford will be on deck to provide awkwardly large armpit stains and trade homemade Otter Pop recipes.  See you there, sweetums.

  • The Narrators and Fortunate Listener – Robert Rutherford

Fortunate Listener :: Rob Rutherford from Mighty Fine Productions on Vimeo.

A few months ago, The Narrators took part in a great music series put on by Audiovore and Mountain to Sound called Fortunate Listener.  They captured some great footage of our storytellers relating “Tales From the Road.”  Here’s The Narrators co-host Robert Rutherford sharing a story about an awkward shower encounter while on tour.  Enjoy!
