The Narrators win Best of Denver Award and launch new series on Colorado Public Radio!

photo(7)Well, lookie there! Westword just bestowed our little storytelling show with a Best of Denver Award for “Best Free Entertainment“! We are proud to be a part of Denver’s creative community and are honored to be recognized with this award alongside so many amazing people, places, and things that make this town tick so soundly, give it it’s tangy flavor, and stink it up with fart jokes and poetry.

What’s more, the debut episode of our ongoing series for Colorado Public Radio, wherein Andrew and Robert explore the craft of storytelling and it’s importance in our everyday lives, has launched. This first episode explores the idea of “truth” in “true storytelling shows like ours. Listen to the episode HERE, and tune into 90.1 FM in Denver and surrounding regions on Fridays at 10:30am or 7:30pm to hear the arts show that we are a part of. Chloe Veltman, who has helped to launch their new arts bureau, is doing amazing things and bringing a metric crap-ton of locally-created content to your earholes.

  • 33: Tales From The Road – LIVE from Denver Music Summit!

33: Tales From The Road – LIVE from Denver Music Summit!

Well, it’s Christmas Eve.  You’re about to embark on an epic drive over the river and through the woods to have your weird aunt breathe scotch fumes all over your neck and listen to your uncle talk about just how right Rush is and witness the tight-lipped diplomacy exuded by old married couples sharing a kitchen while cooking and gasping every few seconds as hordes of shrieking children whirl like dervishes around a house, miraculously not splitting their heads open or poking their eyes or falling off of balconies etc etc.  Or perhaps you are just waiting for a nice cup of tea to steep so you can resume your heavy hang on the couch, cozy as ever in a pair of thick socks and your sweatpants.  Regardless of your current state, you’ll hopefully receive this gift from The Narrators in good cheer.

Here is a live show that we taped at the Denver Music Summit.  The organizers invited us to put together a special show at the McNichols and invite musicians from near and far to tell “Tales From The Road.”  We had such an amazing group of stories that we thought it would be great to present all of them together.  Our storytellers include: Yonnas Abraham from The Pirate Signal and BLKHRTS, Megan Burtt, Carleigh Aikens from BAHAMAS, Jeff Linsenmaier from The Fray, The Czars, Wovenhand, Scott Booker, who manages The Flaming Lips, and Dessa from the Doomtree Collective. Your faithful hosts kick off the podcast with the story of The Mouthstepperz, their acapella dubstep band.

The intro and outro music was produced and graciously provided by Sans Seruf, and you can find more slick beats for your earholes over at his bandcamp page.

Our next show is coming up on January 16th and the theme will be “Things I’ve Forgotten.”

The Narrators are working with Off-Center at the Jones Theater on a show called Lived/Re-lived that will go into full production in March 2014.  Tickets are now on sale. Snatch ’em up.

Thanks for listening, and happy holidays!

  • This Thursday! The Narrators on “The Fall”

Well, the leaves are off of the trees and the all of the plants have gone into senescence, but The Narrators are as vibrant and full of life as ever (I feel like I just wrote a Garrison Keillor intro to Tales from Lake Wobegon).  But I digress.  Our November show is full of great storytellers who will give us their spins on “The Fall.”  Here’s the lineup:

    Jessica Thompson – writer
Greg Salvesen – economics scholar, marathon runner
    Evan Duggan – comedian
Brandi Shigley – dreamer, doer, musician, fashionista
    Mark Sonnenblick – musican, actor
Brian Collona – member of Buntport Theater
    Rachael Pollard – musician
    Haley Driscoll -comedian, veteran improviser

Of course, your hosts Robert Rutherford and Andrew Orvedahl will be on hand to provide pumpkin spice body odor and swap green bean casserole recipes.

8pm at the Deer Pile (above City O’ City).  See you there!
