Themes! Hot themes! Get your hot themes! We here at The Narrators’ Brain Trust bashed our ganglia together to produce our show’s themes for the entirety of 2016, and we’re thrilled to get them out into the world.

We’re hoping that when you take a gander at the list that it’ll get your story-juices flowing (those are produced by your lituitary gland, located deep within your hippocampus – trust us, we’re scientists, and you are reading this on the Internet, the last bastion of truthful information left to humans).

Once those story juices get flowing, side effects may include: rumination, handwriting, deep journaling, epiphanies, spontaneous reverie, glory-daysing, nostalgic mixtape making, and cotton mouth. If your story juices continue to flow for more than four hours, congratulations, you’re a writer. Seek the advice of a therapist and strap in for a fun ride.

If you want to tell a story in Denver or San Diego, please check out our FAQ and get in touch. If you want to see and hear the stories that these themes induce in people, please visit our Events page to find show dates and watch our Facebook page for the latest info on special events and more. Here’s to a year full of stories to come.

83: Jenny Minniti-Shippey, “Bicycles, Beer and the Body”

We’re back after a long Thanksgiving weekend with a story from Jenny Minniti-Shippey. Jenny shares a glimpse into life as a young writer in Galway, a fitting tale for our San Diego Beer Week-themed show “Bottled Up,” recorded live at Tiger! Tiger! Tavern on 10 November 2015.

Our next live events—which are our last two shows of 2015—will take place on 8 December in San Diego and 16 December in Denver. The theme will be “Siblings.”
AND! On Thursday, 3 December, we’ll be posting our show themes for 2016. That’s right, the whole year, presented to you with a seasonal, non-existent, metaphorical bow. If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of the show, you’ll be able to start planning now. Stay tuned on our website and on our Facebook page for the big announcement, and we hope to see you at a show.

Our theme music is by our friend Whalehawk (aka the Grammy-nominated musician Jake Sanders).

Every time I see her, I regret that we didn’t know each other sooner. Hannah’s story was recorded live on 21 October 2015 at Buntport Theater in Denver, Colorado. The theme of the evening was “Creeps.

    81: Kendall Burdett, “Pretend Lawyer”

Robert steps up on his soap box with a mini rant about what makes a good story and presents this week’s tale, which comes to you from Kendall Burdett, a writer, comedian, and native San Diegan who wears a suit well enough to convince officers of the law that he is an attorney. This story was recorded live on 10 November 2015 at Tiger!Tiger! Tavern in San Diego, California. The theme of the evening was “Bottled Up.”

We’re pleased as pickles to be part of the Stompin’ Ground Games, a monthly neighborhood pride festival put on by our friends at Warm Cookies of the Revolution. • Addis Sisay (African Community Center)
    • Bhuwani Shankar (Picture. Me. Here.)
