The last couple of months have been really big for The Narrators and I just wanted to say thanks to all of you, our loyal podcast listeners, especially those of you who don’t live in Denver or San Diego, who’ve endured our constant plugs for shows you can’t attend. If you’re one of those folks who listens to this podcast but has never seen the live show, we want to know you! Please say hello on Facebook, Twitter, or email us.

I also want to say thanks to all of you who do come to the monthly events and show your support by throwing cash in the donation jar. Your generosity in Denver has allowed us to start paying our performers, which is huge. If you’re looking for other ways to help this show and what we do, please support our sponsors and tell them we sent you. Also, please consider giving this podcast a rating on iTunes. It takes less than one minute and really does make a huge difference in the world of podcasting.

Our next live events will be on October 13 in San Diego and October 21 in Denver. The theme will be “Creeps.” The San Diego show is still looking for a few more storytellers, so please email Robert and Mary if you’re interested. You can send them a message via our Facebook page or email them at sandiego@thenarrators.org.

We are still reeling with excitement over the success of the first San Diego Narrators show. Thanks to each and every storyteller and all of you who came out to support us.

Today’s featured storyteller, Wendy Smith, a.k.a. Wendyceratops, is a Professor of English at Mesa Community College in San Diego. See her students’ ratemyprofessors.com reviews to get a sense of just how amazing she is:

“Never boring.”
“Fair. For the most part.”
“Really chill.”
“Always has snacks.”
“A believer.”
“Passionate.”
“Open to different interpretations.”

And:

“A must”

Buuuut:

She is “provincial”

And:

“She does have her favorites and I was not one of them but that should
not matter unless you want to go out for a beer with the prof.”

The Narrators San Diego debuted just three days ago and we’re over the moon happy for what’s happening there, what it means for this show and this podcast. We’ve been listening to the raw audio of the stories that were told at that first show and dude, it’s so good. Denver, we’re not living in a vacuum anymore—we have competition on the coast.

Today’s story comes from Robert Rutherford. When Robert’s not co-hosting The Narrators San Diego, he works as a museum educator and the digital content developer at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Robert’s story was recorded live on 8 September 2015 at Tiger!Tiger! Tavern in San Diego, California. The theme of the evening was “Firsts.” Our theme music is by our friend Whalehawk (aka the Grammy-nominated musician Jake Sanders).
